Jotovi Designs will be having another photo shoot.  The purpose is to update our websites and to add to our portfolio.  It is very important to keep plugging away at your craft.  If you are not booking any paying jobs you must find ways to keep your skills fresh and your portfolio growing.  This month we are going to be taking some pictures outside.  Let’s hope that mother nature cooperates with us and we get some great shots.  So look for a new page of photo coming soon.

VICKI KELLNER BEST OF ORLANDO DESTINATIONS

Last week I did my first job as a makeup artist for a video production shoot. It was alot of fun, and alot of waiting around. I spent 12 hours the first day at the shoot and I probably worked 2 hours total applying makeup. The job was to highlight some of the not so popular visitor attractions in Orlando. We went to a place called Forever Florida in St Cloud where they have a hugh nature park and zipline rides and horseback ridding. We also went to Pirates Dinner theater that night. The next day we went to Gatorland and taped the attractions there.

It was a great experience for me. I definately got my feet wet as a makeup artist. It was less art and more sweat patrol but it is the real world and it was great.

Here are some perfect pairing for hair colors:

Blonds - Blond hair looks great with pastel pink lip hues, as well as rich tomato-y-reds.

Brunette- Plum, nude and sheer lip tones all work best with dark hair.

Redhead - Red is a bold hair color, so use rosy lipsticks and lip stains that match your natural lip color.

Breaking into the world of makeup artistry is not easy.  Many people go to school to become a makeup artist and some people are self taught.  Either way the competion is stiff.  So how do you get your name out there and get jobs?   Networking (through meet up groups, modelmayhem, facebook, etc.) is great and once you get some work and prove yourself more jobs will come but another great way is to market yourself using the internet.  I have seen it work for my husband.  He has great talent but he also has a great marketing tool, the intenet.  If you don’t have the money to create a web site (you know the saying, it takes money to make money), you can still market yourself on free web listing to get your name out there.  Most of these sites will allow you to create a profile, list some pictures and create coupons for discounts.  You can always upgrade to a more extensive listing for a fee.  That is up to you.  Some of the listing I recommend are:  showmelocal.com, merchantcircle.com, insiderpages.com and local.com.  Set yourself up on all of the sites and get your name out there, keep tweaking the sites and you will see results.

Good luck!

There are some great alternatives that are a great escape from the sometimes greasy and icky feel of lipstick.  One of the greatest inventions besides the television, and telephone  is tinted lip balm.  We also sell a mineral makeup line that includes a wonderful  Lip Gloss.   Also for the lips we carry a lip buffer, which will help to remove the dead skin and a lip stain moisturizer, which works wonderfully.

PostHeaderIcon When I have a really bad breakout, I try to cover it with makeup, but that just makes it look worse. I don’t want to look that bad in front of people?

Concealer can be such a great thing, but I agree that sometimes it does just cause a breakout to seem more apparent. I do feel that the most important thing is to treat the breakout properly and to speed up recovery by doing so. We have all been there though, and I know that there are times when you just want to cover them up and let them heal in the meantime. Just when we thought that wasn’t possible, there is a great line of products on the market that is a mineral makeup which is considered a “skin-care makeup”.  They are truly wonderful and I feel they are extremely effective.   That is why we sell our own brand of mineral makeup called JOTOVI Mineral makeup.  I always say that it’s not worth putting something on your skin that doesn’t have beneficial properties to the long-term look and feel of your skin. I offer a mineral makeup that you apply as a foundation and it is packed with the most amazing ingredients, like Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Willow Bark Extract, Chamomile, Calendula, and Seaweeds (Algin, Agar and Carrageenan). These ingredients will help your skin look more youthful, diminish the appearance of lines and wrinkles, minimizes pores, even out skin tone and the makeup adheres extremely well, so you don’t know you are wearing foundation. There are 10 tones to choose from, which ensures there is a perfect shade for every skin tone. This is key with foundation, and is where most people go wrong, and it can be a painfully two-toned experience.

PostHeaderIcon The Care Of Cosmetics

THE MAKEUP SHOW NEW YORK CITY

Here’s what I’ve started to do after my husband threatened to throw it all away! We all get about a million free cosmetic bags with our gift with purchases (GWPs) so, I have one that goes in my purse, one that sits in my car, one that is in the bathroom, and then on my vanity table. Then I have about four more - one with all lipsticks and glosses, one with eye shadows, one with pencils and one with foundations and other necessities. Then, when I want to switch what is in my car or in my purse, I just pull the necessary stuff from the cosmetic bags and put the others away. And, probably every year, I throw out some of the old stuff.

Another idea is to get a functional, plastic set of stackable drawers, which is nice for things like lipstick, gloss, pencils, and bodycare items. It looks relatively neat, and is a great clutter-buster. If you get the clear kind, you can see everything inside, and you could even label the fronts with what the contents are.

If you organize everything in a fun way, you could even treat it like shopping for new makeup every time you choose your products for the day!

Avant Garde Eye Makeup: Avant garde, innovative eye make up looks are often showcased on the runway. These may be achieved with airbrushed or painted designs accentuating the eye area, dramatically emphasizing the eyes with color and dramatic lines, and/or use of highly unusual elements to create a distinctive look.

Natural or Understated: On the other end of the runway spectrum, eye makeup sometimes gets underplayed in order to emphasize another facial feature, such as the lips or cheeks, or to reflect a more natural make up theme. More natural shades and shimmers may be used. The fresh-faced appeal of understated eye makeup is one that can easily be pulled off for every day with a flesh colored eye shadow, a brown or other medium neutral liner on the top eye, and two coast of mascara on curled lashes.

Period: Often reflective of the clothing inspirations, period makeup can play up the theme and revive eye makeup looks form eras past. Thick pin up girl eyeliner, eye-catching cat eyes, or bold blue shadow might appear.

Fantasy or theme: Fantasy and theme eye makeup is filled with imagination and places heavy emphasis on the eyes, making them dark, dramatic, or mysterious for the runway. Thematic elements may be incorporated into the ye makeup looks, such as heavy silver-toned glitter and shimmer shades for a winter show, or rich plum or mauve shades to create sultry eyes for a spicy sexy feel.
